Xiaomi's smartphone sales in India has grown by 72% in the last two years. The Chinese tech giant entered the Indian market in 2014. According to the company's spokesperson, Xiaomi gets a major share of its sales from online sales. Xiaomi India Head Manu Jain said. “We entered India in July 2014 and disrupted the smartphone industry with high-quality devices. We have since then seen an incredible growth rate of 72% year-on-year (July 2014 to July 2016) in terms of smartphone sales.”
Jain further added that Xiaomi India sold 1.75 million units of the Redmi Note 3 in five months since its launch in March. He said, “Redmi Note 3 is the single highest-shipped smartphone ever in the history of India’s online market in any given quarter,”
Also, the online sales of the Xiaomi Redmi Note 3 is 880,000 units in the April-June quarter of 2016. Speaking on this, Jain added, “This is almost twice the volume of the second highest-shipped smartphone in the online channel in India. We are among the top three players online with about 11-15 per cent share of the handsets bought online.” About 28 per cent of handsets shipped in India are through the online channel. As per IDC data, 27.5 million units of smartphones were shipped in the second quarter of 2016.
The company also sells other products and accessories like tablets, power banks and bluetooth speakers in India.
